AFIRE Scholarships

Scholarship Application

AFIRE assists with providing scholarships to adult day training classes as funds become available. The Fundraising Committee seeks endowments, writes grants, and engages in other fundraising activities that will increase the monies available to those in need.

Students are not required to be AFIRE members to be eligible to receive scholarships or other AFIRE benefits.

Scholarship DEADLINE is November 1st, 2019

All applications are reviewed and considered in the order in which they are received by the AFIRE Board of Directors. Approvals, disapprovals, questions, or requests for additional information will be communicated to the ADT, Care-Giver and Applicant in writing. AFIRE cannot consider any application that is not fully completed or contains erroneous information. Funding for the Scholarship is sent directly to the ADT upon approval of each application. Any questions should be directed to AFIRE at our contact page.

AFIRE provides approximately 20 scholarships valued at $1,000 each to qualified applicants per year.  To be eligible the individual would need to be on the State Medicaid Waiver wait list through the Agency for Persons with Disabilities,  or have documented limited source of funding for a day program. The scholarships are for Adult Day Training Programs (ADT) that hire and manage their own qualified personnel and staff members in accordance with the requirements of the Medicaid Waiver and other State of Florida Regulations.

Currently, there are over 2300 persons with intellectual challenges that reside here in the Tampa Bay area. They are on the Medicaid “Wait List” until the state has funding for them. The State of Florida has approximately 22,000 people waiting for services. The need for funding to assist these individuals is of great importance as non stimulation for a person with developmental disabilities leads to rapid intellectual deterioration. The average cost is $30-35 per day for an Adult Day Training Class.
